Microsoft Zune - iPod Killer?

Have you seen the new Zune MP3 player from Microsoft? It seems to me they have waited a little late to introduce this as Apple's iPod has over 70% of the market for mp3 players. But time will tell if Zune will eat into any of iPod's marketshare. My guess is "no".

A few features is that it is a 30 GB player with a nice size LCD screen. Possibly the biggest advantage that Zune has over the iPod is the LCD screen which is 44% larger. It will play Apples AAC files "like an iPod" that are purchased through the iTunes store as well as MP3 and Window's WMA format. It will also play MP4 videos and hold images much "like an iPod". The user interface has a large center button "like an iPod", The Zune design is thicker than the iPod and not as sleek and shiny either. It seems "like an iPod" in a cheesy plastic container. Another disadvantage is you must currently use Windows XP to transfer songs between your computer and the device. It is not even set up to work with Microsoft Vista, which is the new Windows operating system to be released in January '07. The Zune website says to check back for updates.

Microsoft claims a 14 hour battery life which would be an advantage, however many times the manufacturer claims are not reality. Even though the iPod has one of the worst battery lifes, users must not care a great deal due to their success.

The Zune also includes Wi-Fi which allows users to "beam" or share files between devices, which is a nice add for multi-media device.

Are you catching the theme here? Microsoft has relaeased a gadget that looks "like an iPod". However if you are tying to compete with one of the "best gadgets ever", you better go over the top with design, features, and "coolness". It seems to me they missed the bus. If you have purchased the device add your comments to let potential buyers know how you feel about Zune.

Sidekick 3 - Gotta Have One?

There's been alot of talk lately about T-Mobile's Sidekick 3 . Seems as if T-Mobile is hyping it up with release parties in LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Dallas, D.C., Atlanta, New York, and a few other major cities. My Space is one of their corporate sponsors that is co-hosting the Sidekick parties. So, what's the scoop? Many Hollywood Stars appear to be on board. Is it really "all that"?

The Sidekick 3 integrates many of the features that people are looking for today: instant messaging, email, web browsing, 1.3 megapixel camera, Blue Tooth, mp3 player with optional 2gb sd card that will hold up to 500 songs, and a QWERTY keyboard. T-Mobile proclaims it has up to 5 hours talk time and 60 hours on standby. It has a flip screen as you can see, and runs on the propiertary Hipton OS. So, I guess we can say it's truly "hip". 3D TV - You Gotta Be Kiddin' Me?!?

It appears that 3D TV is just around the corner. Philips plans to release a High Definition 3D TV that does not require glasses in 2008. It was announced at the 2006 CES that the technology is only in the Philips lab and not being shown publicly, but we have found evidence otherwise. The link below will show that the 3D TV has been put on public display and found to be quite incredible.

Hollywood is not producing 3D movies yet, but the technology will allow the 3D affect with 2D High Def DVD's. We will feel sure Hollywood will follow suite when the technology catches on.
Well, I guess the future is now, and it looks pretty kewl. I can't wait for the jetpack hover car.

Caleb Chung, the inventor of Furby, has released a robotic dinosaur named Pleo. Pleo has 8 processors that control 14 motors compared to Furby's single motor and microprocessor. Pleo receives signals from 38 sensors and learns from it's experiences and surroundings, which essentially means it is writing its own code. Pleo hopes to be ready for Christmas in the $200 price range. Recent reports say release may not be until March 2007.

Sprint Treo 700w Rumor Mill

Sprint had announced that they would be releasing the new Treo 700 with Windows Mobile in late March '06. The rumor is the release could be the end of February. This news also contradicts the standard three to six months exclusivity contract that a carrier usually signs with a manufacturer. Verizon just released this product on January 5, 2006. The new model is powered by WM5 and packed with EVDO. We have also heard that Bill Gates himself uses a Treo 700w. The new Treo 700w will definitely be one of "the best gadgets ever". That is until the Treo 800 hits the showroom floor.
